Our Mission

Our Mission

As a church our vision is to worship God, build each other up, serve our community and share God’s love through what we do and say. This is summed up in our Vision Statement as:

Bringing God’s love into the heart of the community

Our Aims

We have developed the following four main aims to help us focus all we do:

1) Worship   We aim to deepen our relationship with God, corporately and individually.

2) Discipleship   We aim to provide opportunities for every member to grow in their faith, by being disciples on a journey together.

3) Relationship   We aim to develop collaborative ministry by learning together, listening carefully to each other, encouraging and affirming one another, building one another up.

4) Mission   We aim to encourage everyone, as far as they are able, to play their full part in God’s mission and be fully aware of, and responsive to, the needs of others. We expect this to lead to growth, individually and in the numbers of those becoming members.

Below is some more detail as to how we try to achieve this

Aim 1            Worship

We aim to deepen our relationship with God, corporately and individually, and provide adequate ways to express this in worship:

1.1             We will provide opportunities for corporate and individual daily prayer and regular study of the Bible

1.2             We will keep our corporate worship times under review in order to meet the needs of the widest variety of needs we can adequately sustain

Aim 2            Discipleship

We aim to provide opportunities for every member to grow in their faith, by being disciples on a journey together

2.1             We will support the learning, development and spiritual growth of individuals and groups

2.2             We will provide activity and study groups for all ages

2.3             We will encourage personal growth through attendance at external training events, conferences, and other opportunities

Aim 3            Relationship

We aim to develop collaborative ministry by learning together, listening carefully to each other and encouraging and affirming one another

3.1             We will provide opportunities for the various congregations to develop relationships, within and between themselves

3.2             We will create an environment that stimulates and develops the growth of stronger relationships between people within our congregations and between our congregations and the wider community

3.3             We will make full use of opportunities provided by the wider church (e.g. Diocese, Deanery, ecumenical partners, national and international groups)

Aim 4            Mission

We aim to encourage everyone, as far as they are able, to play their full part in God’s mission and be fully aware of, and responsive to, the needs of others. We expect this to lead to growth.

4.1             We will encourage mission within the congregations, the community and the wider world

4.2             We will share the good news of Jesus locally at all opportunities, seeking ways to do so that are culturally relevant and make sense to the communities around us

4.3             We will develop our buildings in ways that support our aims and become a better resource for ourselves, our immediate communities and beyond

4.4             We will commit a proportion of our financial resources to support mission beyond the parish

Our Principles

We have five principles we use to guide us in the development of our aims and objectives:

1. We will, as far as we are able, offer worship and other activities that are relevant and attractive to all ages and groups within the culture and community we live in and serve.

2. We will create an environment in which all feel able and comfortable to contribute their gifts and skills.

3. Our two churches – and any future ‘Fresh Expressions’ - will move forward as a single parish, with an agreed strategy and common policies, along with objectives and ways of operating that are relevant to the communities we serve.

4. We will increase co-operation with other churches in the Cluster, and other local Christian churches where we can usefully work together, for the sake of mission.

5. We will work with other community groups, wherever possible, to further God’s Kingdom and play our part in building strong, cohesive communities
